Questions arborists ask

Should I call myself an arborist or a tree lopper on Google?

Use both where it fits. A customer may type 'tree lopping' even though the trade avoids the word. Set 'Tree service' as your primary category, add 'Arborist service', and let your pages use the words customers actually search.

Do I need a separate page for every suburb I work in?

Only for suburbs where you want more work and have real jobs to show. A page with photos of local removals and a review from that street is worth having. Twenty pages with the suburb swapped can do more harm than good.

How do I show up when someone asks ChatGPT for an arborist?

AI answers draw on what is published about you online, such as your Google profile, your website, your reviews and directory listings. Keep your business name, services and suburbs consistent across all of them, and state your qualifications and insurance plainly. Nobody can promise a mention.

I run the business from home. Do I have to show my address on Google?

No. Set your Google profile as a service area business, hide the address and list the suburbs you cover. You can still show on the map. Google places you at the address you verified even when it is hidden, so you tend to show more often near home than at the far edge of your area. Keep your name and phone the same on every listing.

What photos should I put on my Google profile and website?

Real jobs, not stock. A before and after of a gum removal, a climber in the canopy, the chipper on the nature strip and the clean lawn when you leave. Caption each with the job and suburb where you can. Photos that look like a customer's own yard help them picture you doing the job.

Do I need a website for this?

Not to start. Your Google profile can do a lot on its own. If you have a website, Smoko drafts service and suburb pages for it from Tradie School's templates, for you to check.

I'm a one-person business. Is this worth it?

Yes. Someone searching for a tradie nearby wants the job done well, not a big crew. Smoko drafts everything from your answers and photos for you to check, so it doesn't eat your evenings.

How long until I show up higher?

No one can honestly promise a date or a spot. Google takes time to pick up changes, and every trade and area is different. This course helps you get the basics right and keep them right.

Will Smoko change my Google profile or website without asking?

No. Smoko drafts every change and shows it to you first. Nothing goes live until you approve it.
